About this Event
Artificial intelligence is no longer just a buzzword—it’s reshaping healthcare, biotech, and data-driven industries. In this Beaker’s Speakers session, we’ll spotlight three KGI alumni at the forefront of AI implementation across genomics, digital health, and advanced analytics
-
Jessica Bugarin, MSGDA ’22 – Senior Curation Scientist at Genomenon, Inc and Adjunct Professor at KGI. She leads evidence-based variant interpretation using ACMG/AMP and VCEP guidelines, contributes to Mastermind workflows, and develops Python tooling to improve curation efficiency and transparency. An engaged educator and mentor, Jessica bridges research and clinical practice, helping teams translate genomic data into confident, patient-centered decisions.
-
Arun Ravi, MBS ’07 – Senior Director of Health AI at Microsoft. Arun leads strategy and product development across clinical documentation, ambient intelligence, and AI-driven healthcare and life science services. He has helped launch and scale solutions like Dragon Copilot and the Dragon Admin Center, now widely adopted by health systems to reduce clinician burnout and improve operational efficiency. Prior to Microsoft, Arun led healthcare initiatives at AWS such as Amazon Comprehend Medical and AWS Healthlake. Prior to Amazon he co-founded a venture-backed digital health startup Mevoked that was acquired by Wellbrain in 2017. His experience spans product, engineering, and go-to-market leadership, and he brings a practical, patient-centered lens to AI Innovation. Arun also advises startups and mentors merging leaders in the health tech ecosystem.
-
Ryan Peeler, MBS ’07 – VP of Business Insights at BlackDoctor. BlackDoctor is the world's largest and most comprehensive online health resource specifically targeted to African Americans. He previously worked in Data and AI roles at Clinical Education Alliance, Riger Sciences, Within3, and Voxx Analytics.
Peeler's peer-reviewed articles have appeared in scientific, technical, and medical (STM) journals on genetics, evolution, climate change, natural language processing, and network analysis. He has contributed to textbooks on biomedical semantics, evolution through hybridization, and business communications - and he holds two patents in network analytics.
As an undergraduate at the University of Georgia, Peeler double-majored in biology and genetics. He received his MBS from KGI, where he focused on strategy, leadership, management, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
An amateur magician and stand-up comic, Peeler quips that he was TimeMagazine Person of the Year in 2006 (the year of "You"). He was featured in OC Register's "Forty under 40" issue in 2013 and enjoys brewing beer, woodworking, 3D printing, watchmaking, and speakding time with family.
Together, they will share how they’re harnessing AI to solve real-world challenges—from accelerating genomic insights to easing clinician burnout to driving innovation in healthcare data.
